The Navajo Jewelry Display is back in operation after being closed down in 2017 due to environmental concerns.
Navajo Nation Council Chairman and former state Sen. Don Young has said the jewelry display was built with Navajo people in mind.
Navajos are Navajo people.
We’ve been involved in a lot of the development of the Navajo Jewelery display for the past few years.
The Navajo people came up with the idea.
They came up and they said, ‘Let’s do this,’ so we’ve been able to bring the jewelry back and it will continue to be in operation for the Navajo people,” said Young.
Navaho leaders have been concerned about the impact of mining in the area for years, but the Navajo Nation Council said it was the first time they have faced such a situation.
Young said he believes it was an economic decision made by the Navajo government.
He believes they are now taking precautions and working to protect their people.
